What to do on a Snow Day?

Here in NYC winter storm Stella is predicted to bring upwards of a foot of snow *le sigh.* Schools are canceled, most people have been told not to come in to work, and everyone is abuzz. We haven't had much of a winter snow-wise, and have even had a few days in the 60s, so I suppose we're due for a hard hit, though I'd have preferred skipping to spring.

Just two friends out in a blizzard wearing onesies under their parkas. FYI we will be re-creating this photo.

So what to do when the city shuts down and the streets are blanketed in white? "Do you want to build a snowman?" #sorrynotsorry I love Frozen and spent Saturday night seeing Bobby and Kristen Lopez aka the lyricists and composers of Frozen, along with many other big-name productions, perform so I have major "brain freeze" 😋 *Spoiler Alert* Expect some major time on this in my March favorites because it was oh so incredible (if you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you already know what happened). But I digress...

Here are my favorite things to do on a Snow Day. Add yours in the comments!

  • Curl up with a good book or start a new one you've been wanting to get to!
  • Arts & Crafts or a DIY project
  • A few things on your to-do list- there's nothing like being productive and going back to the "real world" the next day feeling accomplished. Don't let this take up your whole day though, unless you want it to. The point is to prevent couch potato level expert, not make you go into work post-snow day feeling drained. Which leads me to...
  • Watch that movie/show you've been wanting to see, catch up on your DVR, or revisit an old favorite, may I suggest my oh so apropos guilty pleasure: Snow Day. (No joke, I love this movie; Sleepover is another gem. I might also be 13 at heart.)
  • Try out a new recipe or just cook/bake in general
  • House chores - same idea as the to-do list.
  • Have a virtual date with a friend who's also snow day-ing. Whether it's a phone call, Facetime, watching the same show/movie and then discussing after, there's no reason to do your day solo if you don't want to.
  • Build a snowman! Or make snow angels, sled, have a snowball fight, take a walk in the fresh powder and enjoy the stillness and how everything has that eerie déjà vu, familiar but not quality.
This will be me, minus the coffee because #tea and swap the poetry for The Life of Pi which I'm just now reading. PC: Thought Catalogue on Unsplash

I may also finally make Lauren Magenta's 2 ingredient donuts except I don't have a donut pan so will be doing it in a loaf pan. PC: @laurenmagenta

Stay safe and warm! Send pictures of any recipes, snowmen, or crafts you get up to.
