I Got a New Job - Part Two

As you may have guessed from the radio silence, my new job has taken over my life BUT I love it! I'm still learning and getting into a groove, but everyone at the company is phenomenal.

My desk is not this clean.

My desk is not this clean.

It's interesting, for so many people of my generation, the goal is to do their own thing; be an entrepreneur; be a #girlboss; start your own company. I think it's the side effect of growing up in the shadow of our fellow Millennial Mark Zuckerberg. I'm not saying these aren't admirable goals and to a large extent they're what I was somewhat doing prior to this job (more accurately toying with). With all of the emphasis on being your own boss and creating something new, there is this unspoken put-down of those who work in a more traditional setting. It's as if we're not as creative, as motivated, as forward-thinking. No one says it, but I definitely sense it. Anyone else?

I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I completely disagree with the notion that those in corporate America are somehow less than our entrepreneur counterparts. In joining corporate America, I haven't lost any creativity, motivation, or desire to innovate. Rather, I finally feel like I have more time to do those things. Without spending time working on getting clients, I have more time to do my actual work. Being part of a team gives me people to inspire, support, and teach me right by my side all the time. With the resources of a large company, we can accomplish so much. It's incredibly exciting and rather than feel like my world has closed, I feel like it has blown wide open.

I am so excited for all that is to come. I am so thankful for my friends and family who have been so supportive as I find my way. I am so grateful that I was given this opportunity and hope that this is the beginning of a long and wonderful time at my new day-time home.

What do you think? Are you in the corporate world or doing your own thing?
