Reflections on 2019

I interrupt going more in-depth on this year’s highlights to share some thoughts I have as we close out 2019, the teens? tens? 2010s? (what are we calling this decade?!), and look ahead to 2020. A lot has happened in 10 years, and yet in some ways, things are the same.

Oh the places you'll go

I filled out one of the templates that I’m sure you’ve seen going around the ‘gram, but didn’t post it anywhere as it was really an exercise for myself. It’s funny what you remember. I know I left out so many things as I was writing but I think I captured the biggest moments:

  • Leaving London

  • Law School

  • Being diagnosed with anxiety

  • Taking/passing the bar exam

  • Travel: Croatia, Italy, London x2, France with a surprise stop at Euro Disney, Ireland, Portugal, Miami many times, Anguilla, Turks + Caicos, Chicago, New Orleans, Belize, Belgium, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, The Bahamas, Philadelphia, Santa Barbara, and an accidental detour through Bosnia (I don’t think I missed anything but it’s possible)

  • Losing Netta

  • Selling East Hampton

  • Moving to Chelsea

  • @whatimholding

  • Buying an apartment and becoming a HOMEOWNER and Upper East Sider!

  • Injuries

  • Career changes

  • Hudson my fur-nephew

  • My sister getting engaged

From the good to the bad, I wouldn’t really change much. There are experiences, people, and lessons, I wish I could go back and talk to my younger self about, but that’s not how life works and I’m still where I am now which is a very good place and so it doesn’t matter. This was the decade that I met myself. I made lifelong friends; let go of (or at least started to) things that don’t serve me; and learned how to challenge and reward myself in healthy, productive ways. This isn’t to say that I’m now the picture of serenity; I certainly have my moments, *sigh,* it’s a process, BUT I am going into 2020 excited and ready for whatever ups and downs may come. I know it won’t all be easy, but if this last year (and decade) taught me anything, it’s that there will always be a hand to help if you need it.

Cheers to new adventures be they travel, career, relationships, personal, fitness, fun, or anything else! Up for me is a trip to Kenya in the summer and a few other things that I’ll share along the way. Happy 2020!

What were your 2019 (or decade) highlights? What are you looking forward to in 2020?
